Inspired by childhood memories of playing with Legos, Agliottone sought to create a sofa that was lightweight, removable, and not bulky. The result is Cinque, a design that challenges the traditional static and cumbersome nature of sofas.
What sets Cinque apart is its innovative interlocking assembly system. Made from birch plywood coupled with Fenix, this sofa can be easily assembled and disassembled without the use of any tools. The numerical control processing of the structure ensures precision and durability, while the cushions are crafted from eco-leather and/or natural handmade fabrics.
With dimensions of 205x88x73 cm, the Cinque sofa offers ample seating space. However, when disassembled, it reduces to a compact 205x88x10 cm, allowing for easy storage and transport. This feature makes it an ideal choice for those who frequently move or have limited space.
The Cinque sofa not only showcases Agliottone's design prowess but also addresses sustainability concerns. By eliminating the need for screws, nails, and excessive packaging, this design reduces plastic waste and promotes recyclability. Additionally, the sofa is available in both indoor and outdoor versions, making it a versatile and functional piece of furniture.
The Cinque sofa made its debut in 2013 at a design competition and has since been exhibited at prominent events such as the Fuori Salone del Mobile in Milan and the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna. In 2021, Agliottone collaborated with a local carpentry to bring this innovative design back to life.
Overcoming the challenges of creating an interlocking system and reducing the use of plastic and hardware for large-volume furniture, Agliottone has successfully created a sofa that combines functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics. The Cinque sofa is a testament to the possibilities of innovative design in enhancing our living spaces.
Acknowledging its excellence, the Cinque sofa was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade recognizes designs that exhibit exceptional creativity, technical skill, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.
